5 NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS to Step Up Your Sustainable Fashion Game

Cherie Birkner December 30, 2019

by Cherie Birkner

Here we are between the years in that time of self reflection, getting ready to walk through that door which will take us to the next decade. Here are 5 New Years resolutions that will step up your sustainable fashion game in 2020.

  1. MAKE SWAPING CLOTHES EASY

Invite a hand full of friends over for a clothing swap. Take a photo of the group with your phone and share it with them in a group chat. Now whenever you want to swap something out you can use this chat as a starting point.

2. EXTEND THE USEFUL LIFE OF YOUR CLOTHES

Take it to the tailor. Check google to find a tailor and a shoe repair shop near you. Now whenever something breaks (your pants get a hole for example) take it there, and extend it’s useful life.

3. MAKE THE MOST OF WHAT YOU GOT

Pick one item from your closet and see how many outfits you can come up with for it. Take photos with your phone, and next time you don’t know what to wear that’s where you look for ideas.

4. BE A SMART SHOPPER

Next time you go shopping and want to buy something ask yourself: what do you already own that you can combine that piece with? In what situation will you wear it? Do you have a similar piece already? Will you want to wear this item more than the one you already have? If you still feel like it is a good purchase go for it!

5. MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY

Let someone know you appreciate what they do on a regular basis (ex: one person a week, month or season). Be it a designer, blogger, activist or a friend who you noticed making an effort to do something more sustainably. Everyone can use a little acknowledgement of their efforts to keep them motivated.

📝 Do you have something to add to the list? Let me know in the comments!
